The last day for Lasting Impressions in the University Gallery, and Celebrating the National Parks K-12 in the Art Connectors Second Floor Gallery is December 1st!
Stop by Porter Hall from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to see Lasting Impressions, or 8:30 am to 9:00 pm to see the K-12 exhibit. You won’t want to miss the distinct style of the Leonard H. Axe Library Special Collections, or the inspirational work by local K-12 students featuring our National Parks.
Curator and Professor of Music at Pittsburg State University, Stella Hasting, will present a lecture on the inspiration behind the Harry Krug Gallery exhibit blue brew. The lecture will start at 4:00pm in Room 103, Porter Hall, with the reception following at 5:00 in the Harry Krug Gallery.
Showcasing work from the Permanent Collection, this exhibit explores motion, stillness, and the celebration of the connection between art and music. Finding inspiration from jazz legend Miles Davis, this exhibit is full of distinct graphic styles, incorporating bright colors and geometric shapes. The collaborative wall in the Harry Krug brings together artists of all backgrounds, and explores these ideas even further.
The exhibit opened September 6th, and will remain open until January 12th, 2017.

Come join us this Saturday, the 24th, for Family Art Day. This event serves as the opening for the K-12 National Parks Exhibit! There will be fun activities including a large collaborative landscape and Andy Goldsworthy inspired sculptures!

The Harry Krug Gallery has a piece that students, faculty and visitors can add to. Just outside the Art Office in Porter Hall is large collaborative piece that we invite you to draw on, glue paper to and add a little bit of your creativity to. It is part of blue brew, curated by Stella Hastings. blue brew is a Miles Davis, jazz inspired exhibit featuring works from the Permanent Collection.
When visiting the Harry Krug you will also find QR codes with hand-picked jazz to accompany the artwork.
Don’t forget that Lasting Impressions is also open in the University Gallery. It features work from the Axe Library Collections.

Lasting Impressions August 30 – December 1, 2016 in the University Gallery
The Special Collections and University Archives at Pittsburg State University contain material pertaining primarily to Kansas and the University. Art of various mediums, both original and reproductions, are part of the collection as well, and a small representation of these are on loan for the Fall 2016 Exhibit. A printmaking demo will take place September 7th from 4:00pm to 6:00. The talk and reception will be the next day, September 8th from 4:00 to 5:00 and 5:00 to 6:00pm respectively.

Curated by Stella Hastings, Professor of Music at Pittsburg State University, this exhibit explores motion, stillness, and the celebration of the connection of art and music via the Pittsburg State University’s Permanent Collection. The curator’s talk and reception will be on October 20th from 4:00 to 5:00 and 5:00 to 6:00pm.
Celebration the National Parks K-12 September 14 – December 1, 2016 in the Art Connectors Community Gallery (second floor Porter)
Enjoy imaginative art work from Pittsburg K-12 students, inspired by The National Parks: America’s Best Idea. This year Family Art Day will be September 24th from 2:00 to 4:00pm in Porter Hall.

Don’t miss your chance to see the exhibition in the University Gallery. It will be showing until May 6th! Gwen Walstrand, a photographer, and Sarah Perkins, a metalsmith/enamellist, have created works that are not collaborative, but are designed to be viewed together. “In order to have an impact and a narrative that neither could possess on its own. (We) work in different media but with the same subject matter – the town of Cairo, Illinois. Cairo is a unique place with both rich and tragic histories, a visual showcase of all that is best and worst in our American history.” Walstrand and Perkins have stated.
Every spring, seniors in the Department of Art’s Exhibition Design class go through the process of organizing, designing and installing their own show in the Harry Krug Gallery featuring their own works. This year’s artists are Gretchen Burns, David Bush, Hannah Coward, Jacqueline Denton, Molly McVey, Jessica Purevich, Robert Raio, and Whitney Reeves.
Be sure to check out their artists’ lectures on Thursday, April 28 starting at 4pm until 7pm with a reception in the Harry Krug Gallery at 5pm. The exhibit will be on display until Friday, May 6.
Don’t miss this fun event happening Saturday, April 9th from 2 – 4 pm! It will take place in Porter Hall’s 2nd floor Art Connectors Gallery at Pittsburg State University.
There will be an open mic where you will be able to tell us about a family story, myth or legend.
The event is free and open to the public. Come and go, refreshments provided. All ages are welcome, students 5-8 should be accompanied by an adult. Parking is available on Cleveland Ave., north and west of Porter Hall.
There are some exciting new exhibitions in the works for the Fall 2016 semester! An exhibit featuring art from the Permanent Collection will be happening in the Harry Krug Gallery. It is curated by professor of music, Stella Hastings. The exhibit will create a jazzy vibe, taking the viewer on a musical experience as they view the loud and quiet works hung throughout the gallery.
In contrast to the musical, jazzy exhibit happening in the Harry Krug, a printmaking exhibit will be hung in the University Gallery. It will be curated by Steve Cox, Curator of Special Collections and University Archivist, and the Museum of Art exhibition committee. We got to tour the Special Collections and pick pieces to create a show all about printmaking. The black, white, and muted tones will give it a very different atmosphere than the Harry Krug Gallery.

Cairo, Illinois takes you on a tour of the fading town of Cairo with photographs and enameled bowls. Collective Fusion showcases talent from faculty and staff from all around campus.
